INTRODUCTION
For centuries atheists, agnostics and even
some believers, have described the God of the Bible as a very stern and
cruel Being. Some influential thinkers have stressed that the "God is love"
idea is especially contradicted by some of God's works as described in the
Scriptures. A God of love, they insist, would never wipe out humanity as
Yahweh did during Noah's time, nor would He have destroyed whole cities
simply because of their immoral behaviour. Furthermore, they assert, a loving
God would not have used a favourite tribe to wipe out Canaanite men women and
children simply because their ways did not please Him.
No doubt, the God of the Bible is responsible
for the events described above and for many other events that, when
looked at superficially, do appear quite perplexing. But was God really
cruel, or is there much more to His actions that unbelievers have seen or
refuse to see?
In this site, events that appear to show God
as cruel are analyzed thoroughly. The analysis is done in a thought-provoking
"What if God...?" way. That is, the author will hypothesize what would have
happened if God had not intervened in each case the way He did. This
exercise will make it abundantly evident that God handled each situation
with both wisdom and justice.
This is a work in
progress. In the future, it is hoped that other challenging questions will
be tackled, so as to help undo some of the doubts that unbelievers have sown in many minds.
If you have any questions or comments,
feel free to communicate them with the author, who will do his best to
address them as time permits.
